That’s according to a new research report that takes a look at how Sunbird Software’s DCIM is reaching into the cloud through VMware. The new white paper acts as a review of Sunbird Software’s latest release, as well as the company’s place in the DCIM market, including context, a technology overview, competition, a SWOT analysis and more.
According to 451 Research, DCIM specialist Sunbird Software has been busy adding new features and capabilities to its platform. What stands out in its latest release? For one: increased usability, including advanced search and reporting capabilities.
Also, as the report title illustrates, Sunbird’s DCIM has a new integration with VMware that extends to VMware’s vSphere on AWS and across hybrid clouds.
Taking a bit of a deeper look at Sunbird’s lineup, its flagship DCIM product is dcTrack for asset management and capacity planning. Sunbird’s latest dcTrack release 6.1 is now fully HMTL5, “enabling faster deployment on multiple devices (including mobile) and improved functionality such as granular multi-field searches,” the report states.
And users can now more easily audit APIs; create, save and share search settings, as well as links, reports and dashboard widgets; more easily manage different dashboard roles; and map more data to 3-D visualizations of the physical space, among other features. As for competition, 451 Research points out that Sunbird faces competition in the DCIM market from names like Nlyte Software, as well as specialists such as FNT, Maya HTT and Tuangru. Sunbird is also competing against large datacenter equipment and services supplies such as ABB, Eaton, Schneider Electric, Siemens and Vertiv.
In performing a SWOT analysis for Sunbird as a DCIM specialist — fully explored in the report — the author shed light on one of Sunbird’s strengths: flexibility, or as the report puts it, its ability to be “nimble,” and calls the company’s software “user-friendly,” as well.
As for opportunities in the market, most demand for DCIM today is from large enterprises and colocation providers.

And according to the report, suppliers like Sunbird that offer “scalable and tailored features” for these segments are best positioned to grow.
Better yet, the majority of data centers have yet to adopt DCIM — and this will likely provide for great opportunity in the future of the DCIM market as more begin using these tools.
